Since I was a child, I've always been fascinated by cooking. I began experimenting in the kitchen at the age of 8. My greatest teachers were my grandmother Cutin and my mother Mayra. Although my grandmother is no longer with us physically, her love and teachings are still with me. My mother continues to share her valuable recipes with me, allowing me to keep learning from her.

One of my first lessons in the kitchen was making Puerto Rican pasteles with my grandmother. She always told me, "Learn to make them so you can continue the tradition." At that time, I didn't fully understand the meaning behind her words, as I had my own dreams and aspirations. However, today, as I face her passing, her words resonate with me more than ever. I constantly remember her advice: "Learn and continue the tradition. One day, I won't be here."

Now, as I embark on my own culinary journey away from my beloved island, I feel a deep sense of pride in representing these two incredible women who have shaped my life. It is an honor to put their flavors and seasoning into my culinary creations.

My journey started with Yaya’s Desserts and More, about a year and a half after moving to Virginia. During this transition, I felt the need to create my own Puerto Rican products, as at that time they were very limited or simply nonexistent. I began sharing my products on local pages and forums, unafraid of failure. Without a doubt, my business has been a success since then and continues to grow.

Some of my most popular products include my famous Puerto Rican pasteles (a family recipe), Tres Leches cake, Puerto Rican pound cake (almond soaked), and my quesitos and pastelillitos de guayaba, which are favorites among many of my fellow Puerto Ricans.

My full-time work in Human Resources, backed by a strong academic foundation with a Master’s degree in Labor Relations, has been an essential part of my professional life. However, despite my dedication to this field, cooking has always been my true passion and refuge. Over time, I have managed to balance my roles as a professional, mother, and wife, all while pursuing my dream of owning my own business. Yaya’s Puerto-Rican Cravings (formerly known as Yaya’s Desserts and More) has been my most cherished project for the last 6 years.

Being away from my island and my family has given me all the more reason to reinvent myself. Many don’t realize all the sacrifices I’ve made to get to this point. For me, beyond making a sale, the most important thing is to offer my customers the Puerto Rican products they miss so much.

My goal has always been to share with others the passion and joy I feel while cooking and baking, through my products, which are made with the unique and distinctive flavors my grandmother and mother taught me. It is also my desire to bring them a piece of our beautiful island, evoking the sweetest memories of our Boricua Charm. For me, it’s an immense privilege and blessing to meet and serve them. I am eternally grateful for their continued support.

Desde que era niña, siempre me ha fascinado la cocina. A los 8 años, comencé a experimentar y a descubrir el mundo culinario. Mis grandes maestras fueron mi abuela Cutin y mi madre Mayra. Aunque mi abuelita ya no está físicamente, su amor y enseñanzas siguen conmigo. Mi madre, por su parte, continúa compartiéndome sus valiosas recetas, permitiéndome seguir aprendiendo de ella.

Una de mis primeras lecciones de cocina fue hacer pasteles puertorriqueños con mi abuela. Siempre me decía: “Aprende a hacerlos para que puedas continuar con la tradición.” En ese entonces, no comprendí el verdadero significado de sus palabras, ya que tenía mis propios sueños y aspiraciones. Sin embargo, hoy, mientras enfrento su partida, sus palabras resuenan en mí más que nunca. Recuerdo su consejo con cariño: “Aprende y continúa con la tradición. Algún día, ya no estaré aquí.”

Hoy, que he emprendido mi propio camino culinario lejos de mi isla querida, me llena de orgullo representar a estas dos mujeres tan importantes en mi vida. Me honra plasmar en mis creaciones culinarias el sazón y los sabores que ellas me han enseñado.

Mi emprendimiento comenzó con Yaya’s Desserts and More, aproximadamente un año y medio después de mudarme a Virginia. Durante esa transición, sentí la necesidad de crear mis propios productos puertorriqueños, ya que en ese momento eran pocos o incluso inexistentes. Comencé a compartir mis productos en páginas y foros locales, sin temor al fracaso. Con el tiempo, este negocio ha sido un éxito y continúa creciendo.

Algunos de los productos más populares que ofrezco incluyen mis famosos pasteles puertorriqueños (una receta familiar), el Tres Leches, el Puerto Rican pound cake (mojadito de almendra) y los quesitos y pastelillitos de guayaba, que son los favoritos de muchos de mis compatriotas.

Mi vida profesional también ha sido enriquecida con una sólida formación académica en Recursos Humanos, con una Maestría en Relaciones Laborales. Sin embargo, a pesar de mi dedicación a esta carrera, la cocina siempre ha sido mi verdadera pasión. A lo largo del tiempo, he logrado equilibrar mis roles como profesional, madre y esposa, sin dejar de seguir mi sueño de tener mi propio negocio. Yaya’s Puerto-Rican Cravings (anteriormente conocido como Yaya’s Desserts and More) ha sido, sin duda, mi proyecto más querido durante los últimos 6 años.

Estar lejos de mi isla y mi familia me ha impulsado a reinventarme constantemente. Muchas veces, las personas no conocen todos los sacrificios que he hecho para llegar hasta aquí. Para mí, más allá de realizar una venta, lo más importante es ofrecer a mis clientes los productos puertorriqueños que tanto se extrañan.

Mi objetivo es compartir mi pasión por la cocina y la alegría de hornear, transmitiendo los sabores únicos y tradicionales que me enseñaron mi abuela y mi madre. Quiero llevar a cada cliente un pedacito de nuestra hermosa isla, despertando en ellos los más dulces recuerdos de nuestro Encanto Boricua. Para mí, es un verdadero privilegio y una bendición poder conocerles y servirles. Estoy profundamente agradecida por su continuo apoyo.
