History

Since I was a child, cooking has been my passion. My greatest teachers were my grandmother Cutin and my mother Mayra, who taught me not only recipes but also the importance of keeping Puerto Rican culinary traditions alive. One of my first lessons was making Puerto Rican pasteles with my grandmother, a learning experience I treasure even more today after her passing. My mother, on the other hand, has perfected my skills in making pasteles and other dishes, sharing her secrets and techniques, guiding me to ensure every creation retains that authentic flavor we all love.

My business, Yaya’s Cravings (formerly Yaya’s Desserts and More), was born about a year and a half after I moved to Virginia. At that time, there wasn’t a place nearby where I could find traditional Puerto Rican products. While my initial goal was simply to satisfy my own cravings, I decided to take the risk and offer them to others, and that’s how my business started. Today, we offer authentic Puerto Rican products like pasteles, Tres Leches, almond pound cake, and quesitos. What began in local forums has grown into a business recognized by many, celebrating our traditions and reaching multiple areas, with the goal that, wherever you are, you can enjoy a little piece of our island.

Although I have a professional background in Human Resources and a Master’s degree in Labor Relations, cooking has always been my true passion. Balancing my roles as a professional, mother, and entrepreneur has been a challenge, but my greatest joy is sharing Puerto Rico’s unique flavors with my clients and keeping our traditions alive.

Desde niña, la cocina ha sido mi pasión. Mis grandes maestras fueron mi abuela Cutin y mi madre Mayra, quienes me enseñaron no solo recetas, sino también la importancia de mantener viva la tradición culinaria puertorriqueña. Una de mis primeras lecciones fue hacer pasteles puertorriqueños con mi abuela, un aprendizaje que hoy valoro aún más tras su partida. Mi madre, por su parte, ha sido quien me ha perfeccionado en la elaboración de pasteles y otros platos, transmitiéndome sus secretos y técnicas, y guiándome para que cada creación mantenga ese sabor auténtico que tanto amamos.

Mi emprendimiento, Yaya’s Puerto-Rican Cravings (antes Yaya’s Desserts and More), nació un año y medio después de mudarme a Virginia. En ese momento, no había un lugar cercano donde pudiera conseguir productos boricuas tradicionales, y aunque inicialmente mi intención era satisfacer mis propios deseos y antojos, me arriesgué a ofrecerlos a otros, y así nació mi negocio. Hoy, ofrecemos productos puertorriqueños auténticos como pasteles, Tres Leches, pound cake de almendra y quesitos. Lo que comenzó en foros locales, hoy es reconocido por muchos, celebra nuestras tradiciones y llega a diversas áreas, con la meta de que, dondequiera que te encuentres, puedas disfrutar de un pedacito de nuestra isla.

Aunque cuento con formación en Recursos Humanos y una Maestría en Relaciones Laborales, la cocina siempre ha sido mi verdadera pasión. Equilibrar mi rol como profesional, madre y emprendedora ha sido un desafío, pero mi mayor satisfacción es llevar a mis clientes los sabores únicos de Puerto Rico y compartir con ellos nuestra tradición.

Estoy profundamente agradecida por su apoyo y por permitirme compartir la alegría de hornear y mantener viva nuestra herencia culinaria.
